Update on Sean, The Rock Star

Good news awaits us….

Sean is a rock star!

Posted at approximately 8:45 AM PT

Sean had a great night last night! His ICP stayed in the teens and his temperature and all other vitals were great. Andrea ( one of his amazing nurses) was able to cut his pentobarbital (barbiturate) in half! I know that he has a long way to go and I was thinking that we should try not to get to excited because he could still go back and forth for awhile. Buuuut, you know what? We get so low on the bad days, why shouldn’t we rejoice and say thank you Lord on the the good days! Say it with me people “THANK YOU LORD”! Can I get a hallelujah! Okay so I’m a little excited.

Thanks for all of your prayers and support last night as we were making the difficult transition out of “the room”. I did get some sleep and I feel much better today.

BREAKING NEWS…… The Dr. was just in to talk to me and he said that things are going better. He said that Sean is coming out of the barb coma. He said his suppression rate is 4 and it was 8. I’m not sure exactly what that all means but I know that it is good. He also said that they are taking the bolt (ICP monitor) out of Sean’s head today and that they will monitor his ICP through the ventriculostomy (the catheter that drains cerebral spinal fluid). They will no longer be draining fluid from it continuously, however it is there if they need to use it.

I’m going to close for now so I can go in and hang out with my boy. By the way, I may call him my boy, but that is one strong amazing man in there!

Blessings today dear friends and yes I have an assignment for you today. Rejoice! Count your blessings. I mean it literally try to count your blessings and I guarantee you that no matter what is going on in your life you will not believe how many blessings you have (thats if you can count that high). So count them and thank God for them because God is the creator and the source of all blessings. I will start counting now, lets see where will I start. Sean’s prayer warriors, well thats already to many to count. Now you see how it works.

Thank you all for supporting us with your prayers and presence.

Love,
The inner circle gang Terri, Vince,
Sean, Kiersten, [and cousins] Kyle and Kayla

Update: Day 5

From Terri’s update:

I don’t know where the person got their info about the CT and the Dr meeting and update, buuuuut they were wrong. All of [that about the tests updated last night] didn’t happen. Last night was tough again. Our superhero nurses worked very hard all night as Sean’s ICP wanted to climb. This morning he is high teens, low twenties. He is in day 5 as of midnight last night. God is good and He is holding tight to Sean.

As for us, Vince and I had a heart to heart this morning and realized that we are starting to hit critical mass and we brain stormed (not easy with tired brains) on how to handle the next few days better. What we came up with is that we need to curtail the visitors a little and to update in person less. So on the advice of wise friends we are asking that people limit their visits and get their updates on Sean from this page. We really don’t want people to stay away as we need your love and support but we know that you will understand our need to reserve our energy for each other.

Okay your assignment for the day is to spend some time praying for the people you love, not just the ones in crisis but for every one you love. I think that when we take the time to raise up our loved ones to the Lord, we deepen our love and appreciation for them and for One who put them in our lives.
God is great and He is present.

Love

Terri, Vince, Sean,& Kiersten

Update: Past The 72-HR Mark

Sean is now past the 72-hour mark which is a milestone, as Terri puts it. Her update this morning is positive and heartfelt as she reaches out and puts us to the test of looking within while we stop and smell the roses as she’s been forced to have to do.  Are you stopping to smell the roses?

Here’s what she had to say:

Last night at midnight Sean passed the 72 hour mark, when he gets beyond 96 it will be a real milestone. He had a tough time last night. As his nurse put it, he was being naughty. His ICP stayed in the twenties most of the night and the nurses worked vigilantly to keep it down. At one point it did go in to the teens but when I was last in there it was low twenties. This isn’t good but it isn’t horrible. He is still stable and he is in a crucial 24 hours where his brain is reaching its maximum swelling. He is tough and he is hanging on. God is in that room. He is in that bed holding our boy.

As for us. We just spent night 4 sleeping in the waiting room which sounds worse then it is. This is the bomb of all hospital waiting rooms. It is only for nuero trauma ICU. It is a big room with 2 small seating areas in the back. Those seating areas each sleep 3 people comfortably (well that’s a bit of a stretch, they are pretty hard. We are very thankful for this room and for the fact that the hospital is just fine with us camping out here. We will start sleeping at home when Sean is out of danger, but for now we feel that it is important for him to hear one of our voices every hour or so.

We are being so well cared for by our church, our fire family, our family and our amazing friends. We have had so many visitors. And the food is in abundance. We are eternally grateful for the unending support.

This morning I was thinking about all the people that have been in here. Some we see regularly some we haven’t seen in years. What they have in common is that they love us and they are here for us when we need them.

I have an assignment for everyone today. Call someone you love that you would be there for no matter what and let them know how much you love them. I am realizing just how caught up in our busy lives we get and we sometimes forget to reach out and touch each other. Lets all do that more often.

My heart is truly overflowing with all of the love that is coming our way and and I want you all to know we love you back.

Keep praying. Keep seeing Sean well and whole. God is great and He is present!

Thursday Evening Update

Here’s the latest information:

The last time I went in to see Sean his ICP was 16-21. They had moved him to the airbed and his ICP went up to 28 but dropped right away. The DR. came in when I was there and said that he thinks that Sean has turned a corner. That doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods yet but it does mean something. We have to be careful how excited we get because things can go up and down but you know what, we are feeling pretty good right now and feeling the hope and thats a good thing. Thank you God for holding my boy! As always pray ceaselessly and know that God is great and He is present.
